University of Chicago: Grad school writing sample & letter of recommendation workshop
Applying for graduate school can be overwhelming. How do you choose a strong writing sample? What if you don’t have a writing sample in your intended field of study? And what about letters of recommendation? How do you ask for a letter from a faculty member you barely know? Join Sarah Brock, Director of Recruitment in the Division of the Humanities at the University of Chicago, for an interactive workshop to break down these common application components. Please note this session will make use of breakout sessions and peer review, please bring a draft of a writing sample to workshop with the group.Sarah Brock (BA, Illinois State University, MA, Trinity College, EdD University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) is the Director of Recruitment in the Division of the Humanities at the University of Chicago. As a first-generation student with nearly a decade of admissions and recruitment experience, Sarah works to help eliminate barriers by providing insider tips and tricks, in addition to individualized support, to help students explore opportunities for further education. In addition to her work in graduate education, Sarah is an independent college counselor helping underrepresented students navigate the college admissions process and a scholar of education history and practice in the United States.
