The Small Claims Advisory Service is the only organization in California focused primarily on helping people navigate the small claims court system. All our work is conducted on a pro bono basis: we offer free phone and email consultations as well as the occasional in-person meeting. SCAS is a fantastic, hands-on way to connect the 5c community with the local community in an impactful way. Volunteering with SCAS gives students an invaluable opportunity to become familiar with the legal system and get rare legal training and experience. No prior legal experience is necessary to be successful in SCAS. SCAS will train students in various areas of law, as well as general small claims procedures, alternative dispute resolution methods, and legal research skills.
