Industry Job Boards

There are many resources to support your search for internship and job opportunities. Below are suggestions to diversify your search strategies (which often leads to the most success!), in addition to providing a handful of industry-specific job board websites to aid your online exploration.

3 Primary Strategies for your Job Search:

STRATEGY #1: Job Boards

Purpose: Applicants view positions that are currently open and set filters to narrow their searches.

Where to start? Here are some common job board websites:

STRATEGY #2: People and Networking

Purpose: Connect with and talk to people about their experiences, career journeys, and industry insights to gain knowledge, develop relationships, and build your professional community.

  • Find alumni and other professionals: LinkedIn and Sagehen Connect
  • Talk with professors and fellow students in your major
  • Reconnect with former supervisors and colleagues from previous jobs, internships, or research experiences
  • Reach out to family and friends

STRATEGY #3: Companies and Organizations

Purpose: Identify and learn about different companies and organizations to gain an understanding of the breadth of work and different roles that exist within your industry and desired profession.

Some companies/organizations will not post internship opportunities or programs on external websites (such as LinkedIn, Handshake, or even industry-specific job boards). Instead, you can use LinkedIn and other sites to learn which companies/orgs exist in your industry and then search directly on the company website for internship positions or current employees to connect with.

Professional Associations for your industry may also have job boards or offer development opportunities.

Below are five industry areas with a brief compilation of specific job-board websites that may help you to narrow your search, identify specific job titles and roles, and learn about companies in your industry.

For some professions within the artistic and creative industries, building your network will be the most valuable strategy for your job search. Many jobs for freelance-based roles are not posted online, so connecting with people and describing your skillset may be the most effective for finding opportunities.
